      Hello!! That's a really good question! In Rags to Rugs we cut a LOT of fabric for our custom rug orders as well as to fill orders! So we use a commercial cutter. On smaller rug projects we use a rotary cutter & mat. Here's a link to a video that will help you explore ALL your options for cutting fabric as well as my favorite commercial cutter. • @RagstoRugsbyLora
      @RagstoRugsbyLora 25 дней назад

      Hello! Cut in the direction that preserves as much of the fabric as is possible. In the case of recycled jeans, I would cut the length of each leg. I would also remove the back pockets to make those cuts even longer. Thanks for watching & reaching out!

    Can I use denim for this rug?

    • @RagstoRugsbyLora
      @RagstoRugsbyLora 27 дней назад

      Hello! You absolutely can! If you are considering denim bolt fabrics, they normally come in 3 different weights: lightweight, medium & heavy. I prefer using the lightweight or medium. They will also normally come in light, medium & dark on the bolt!! And of course, recyling jeans is another option. It takes a LOT of jeans though!! I once made a multiple colored denim rug for a customer. He wanted it for his "man cave". I created small 12x12" square sections and then used leather cord (like shoe laces) to connect the squares. Looked like a really cool masculine patchwork rug in the end. And very durable!! He loved it!!

    • @RagstoRugsbyLora
      @RagstoRugsbyLora Месяц назад

      Good Morning! What size of rug are you interested in making? Once you decide the size, you simply subtract the finished width dimension from the finished length dimension. That # is the number of foundational chains you will begin with. Yes! You can use this pattern for both fabric (we use a 2" wide strip) & 6 mm jute. If you are using the same "Q" sized hook we used & yield an approximate 1" gauge, your width divided by 2 is the number of rounds to complete your rug! Here's a video you might enjoy watching! However, we DO have a video for round rugs using the same "Q" sized hook and 2" wide fabric strips as I used for the trivets. Once I reached the desired size, I used an "L" sized hook & 3 ply jute twine for the border. Simply single crochet around! I'll add a link to the round video for you! ruclips.net/video/HHx2mVfevLA/видео.html

      Hello!! Happy you've reached out! I love teaching this rug pattern - with Bonnie Craft Cord, Jute & with Fabric because it's a great way to practice the single crochet stitch! The most important advise is to always remind yourself to add a chain before turning your work & crocheting in each of your stitches the opposite direction. Beyond that, YES!, it's a single crochet stitch throughout the entire rug! A wonderful introduction to crochet & an opportunity to practice your stitches! Please watch the video again! Hoping you'll try it a 3rd time!! Stay in touch okay!?

      @RagstoRugsbyLora 2 месяца назад

      Hello Kaylee! Thank you for reaching out! The cool thing about rug-making is that we are artists & "painting with fabric"! I like to think that anyway?! I design as I go; there isn't a pattern. So it's difficult for me to share how to "do a pattern". I change colors when the overall beauty of my rug "asks" me to. Does that make sense? I hope so because your question is important to me!!

  • @ShirleyBall-qy4zm

    Hi love your rugs! If making a larger rug for example one with 14 rounds, does the last round always have to be single stitches, for example would it be round 12 single stitches, round 13 increase if needed, round 14 single stitches? I hope this makes sense, many thanks from the UK 😊

    • @RagstoRugsbyLora
      @RagstoRugsbyLora 2 месяца назад

      Hello, Shirley! So happy you've reached out! Single stitches on the outer row isn't a necessary but I prefer that nice clean finished look. Just a preference of mine I guess. I normally do the same if adding a scalloped border, too. One row of single stitches & then add my scallop. The scallop adds 5" to your rug overall. On your example, I WOULD crochet single stitches around on either round 11 or 12 & then add my scallop. As to your question for rounds 12, 13 & 14. Personally, I would increase on rounds 12 & 13 as needed and finish your rug off with one row of single stitches only with no increases on round 14. You made perfect sense! I hope my answer does too! Many thanks to YOU! Lora

      Thanks for getting back to me lora, and for your clear explanation. I completely agree with how finishing with single stitches leaves a nice tidy finish, and that’s how I will do it! Thanks again Shirley.

    Hi love your rugs! If making a larger rug for example one with 14 rounds, does the last round always have to be single stitches, for example would it be round 12 single stitches, round 13 increase if needed, round 14 single stitches? I hope this makes sense, many thanks from the UK 😊

    Made my first rag rug ever today following this video. Made some sheet yarn for the first time as well. Length turned out perfectly 34” but width was 17”. I am pretty sure that my first several rows were too tight. Also my sheet yarn was cut horribly uneven. Since the rug was literally free unless you count the few dollars I spent on the Q hook I’m choosing to love it despite its imperfections. It’s my first, it’s cute, and I love it. Edit to add I put my rug as my profile pic since I was unable to post it here.

      @RagstoRugsbyLora oh thank you! I didn't know you have supplies too. I'm gonna check that out as well. I'm excited to get started. Is this similar to how they crochet the sleeping pads with the plastic bags for homeless? I saw a post on a local group where there wanting used grocery bags to make sleeping mats and I'd love to learn how to do those as well.

      Well thank you!! Appreciated! Here's a link to a video you might enjoy! In it, I'm using "Bonnie Craft Cord" but you can use fabric if you choose. And simply adjust the width for your table runner! ruclips.net/video/KAMt10NQgyc/видео.html

    Thank you for the videos! I have now made 5 rugs and am wanting to start a small side business to help support my family. How do you suggest pricing your rugs? Could you make a video on that, there isn't really any clear answer online. Thank you!

    • @RagstoRugsbyLora
      @RagstoRugsbyLora 2 месяца назад

      You're very welcome! LOVE <3 that you are considering starting a business making rugs! AWESOME! You need to decide 2 things: how much is your time worth creating the rugs. (We sometimes forget that our time creating the rug has worth!) And second, your cost of goods. Put little stickers on the fabric you will be using toward making the rugs. Are they bed sheets you picked up at a thrift store? (There is nearly 11 yards of usable goods in a queen size set of sheets) Or perhaps fabric that was on sale/full price? Or possibly fabric/sheets that was donated to you. (Don't hesitate to ask if friends/neighbors/relatives have any sheets they would like to donate!) Regardless, your cost of goods is important in determining the finished sell price for your rug. Cost of goods + your labor = sell price. Keep a journal of every rug sold. Your Cost of Goods, its size/shape, the hours it took to make it, your sell price, date sold & who you sold it to. This way, if you get a call from someone else asking for a rug similar, you can quote them a price fairly easily! And if that same customer asks for another one identical (this happens often), you'll remember what you sold the first one for. Does this help? Hope so!!! Please stay in touch, okay?
